Royal Heater Shield with Fleurs-de-lis – France Moderne

Noble Decoration for Your Interior

This shield is designed primarily as an exclusive interior accessory. Thanks to the sturdy metal chain on the back, you can easily and securely hang it on any wall. Its mirror finish and contrasting gold decorations stand out best on a darker background or stone cladding, where it will catch the eye of every visitor. Although it has the shape of a classic heater shield used by knights for protection, this specific piece is not intended for combat. You will not find hand grips on it, only the hanging system. It is the ideal centrepiece for your home armoury or above the fireplace mantel.

Symbolism of French Kings

The motif on this shield corresponds to the heraldic concept known as "France Moderne". Originally, the French royal coat of arms consisted of a large number of small lilies (France Ancien). However, in 1376, King Charles V reduced the number of lilies to three to symbolize the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The lily (Fleur-de-lis) is one of the oldest and most famous symbols in European heraldry, representing purity, light, and royal dignity. The shape of the shield corresponds to the classic Gothic heater shield, which was in fashion from the 13th to the 15th century, during the heyday of chivalry.

How to Care for the Shield

To ensure this masterpiece brings you joy for as long as possible, it requires minimal but regular care. Remove dust with a soft feather duster or a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid aggressive chemical cleaners, as they could damage the brass parts or dull the shine of the steel. If fingerprints appear on the surface, polish them off with a dry, soft cloth. Keep the shield in a dry environment; high humidity could cause oxidation over time, despite the high quality of the steel.

Safety Warning

Please bear in mind that this is purely a decorative item. The shield is not constructed for fencing, re-enactment, or LARP battles. The material and construction are not designed to withstand blows, and such use would result in irreparable damage. The sharp edges of the metal sheet could cause injury if handled carelessly, so please take extra care when hanging it. Hang it out of the reach of small children.

Excellent accessories for this shield are replicas of historical swords, which you can hang crossed behind it to create a complete heraldic composition.
