Stainless Steel Shield of Castile and León – Castles and Lions
History and Symbolism: The Union of Kingdoms
The dominant feature of the shield is the brass appliqué displaying the famous coat of arms of Castile and León. This emblem is a historical milestone—it represents the first time in heraldry that a shield was quartered to combine the symbols of two kingdoms. Here you will see the Castle (symbolizing Castile) and the Lion (symbolizing León). Additionally, in the bottom point of the brass crest, you can spot a pomegranate, symbolizing the conquest of Granada and the completion of the Reconquista. Thus, this shield represents the era of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon, the Golden Age of Spain.
The shape is that of a classic heater shield with a top edge decoratively shaped into three points. The highly polished steel surface accentuates the golden brass and the rivets that line the entire perimeter of the shield.
Installation and Usage
The shield is designed exclusively as a wall decoration. The back is coated with protective paint and equipped with a sturdy metal chain. Installation is very easy—simply hang it on a strong hook. Thanks to the mirror effect of the steel, the shield optically brightens the room and adds a touch of grandeur.
