Iron Grip Glass Goblet in Knightly Gauntlet
A Blend of Elegance and Brute Strength
The goblet consists of a classic glass vessel set into a precisely sculpted holder made of high-quality polyresin. The design of the holder faithfully imitates a part of medieval plate armour – specifically an iron gauntlet. On the palm and the inner side of the fingers, the detailed texture of chainmail is visible, which historically protected areas where plates could not overlap. The back of the hand and the vambrace are formed by segmented plates with a patina of weathered steel, decorated with fine gold ornamentation that adds a touch of nobility. The base is decorated with relief motifs that ensure stability.
Historical Insight: Hand Protection
The gauntlet was one of the most important and simultaneously most complex parts of knightly armour. An injury to the hand in battle often meant the inability to hold a weapon and thus certain death. In the 13th and 14th centuries, chainmail mittens were commonly used, which were gradually replaced and supplemented by plate segments until the perfect gauntlets of the late Middle Ages were created. This goblet beautifully illustrates the transitional period, combining the flexibility of rings on the palm with the strength of plates on the back of the hand. The gold decorations reference the ceremonial armour of high nobility, which served not only for protection but also for the representation of power and wealth.
Care for Your New Goblet
To ensure this goblet serves you for many years and the decoration remains vivid, please follow these maintenance principles:
- Washing: Wash the goblet exclusively by hand with lukewarm water and a little detergent. Never put it in the dishwasher. High temperatures and aggressive detergents would irreparably damage the hand-painted surface of the resin.
- Beverage Temperature: The glass is intended for cold and lukewarm drinks (beer, wine, mead, soft drinks). Pouring boiling water could cause the glass to crack or loosen the bond between the glass and the resin.
- Microwave: The product must definitely not be placed in a microwave oven.
- Handling: Although the resin looks like metal, it can chip if dropped on a hard surface (tiles). Handle the goblet with care.
A mead decanter or a set of stylish coasters would go perfectly with this goblet to protect your table.
