This machete was created in memory of all the pilots who fought with honour and dignity even in the darkest of times. Its genesis is directly inspired by the famous incident of 20 December 1943. On that day, German fighter ace Franz Stigler, flying his Bf 109, encountered a heavily damaged US B-17 bomber piloted by Charlie Brown. Instead of finishing off the defenceless and crippled aircraft, Stigler saluted the American crew and escorted them to safety over the open sea. This act of mercy became one of the most moving stories of the Second World War. The shape of the machete evokes the rugged survival tools that were part of the equipment of military aircrews for emergency landings in inhospitable terrain.

Construction and Materials Used

The blade is precisely crafted from high-quality 1075 carbon steel, which is highly valued amongst knife experts for its ability to hold an excellent edge for a long time and for its ease of sharpening in field conditions. The surface of the blade features a dark protective coating that reduces unwanted reflections. A double-sided steel crossguard protects your hand whilst working.
