Plate Mitten Gauntlets "Avant", Milanese Style, 1.6 mm Steel
Knightly Protection with a Pedigree
Their robust and functional design is striking at first glance. Each gauntlet is constructed from several steel plates, riveted together to allow for smooth and safe hand movement. The mitten design offers superior resistance to powerful blows compared to fingered gauntlets, which was crucial in 15th-century tournaments and battles.
- Solid Construction: Made from 16-gauge (1.6 mm) mild steel, built to withstand rigorous use.
- Wrist Protection: The large, flared cuff excellently protects the vulnerable wrist and effectively deflects blows.
- Comfort and Grip: Inside, you'll find a comfortable glove made of sturdy split leather. The thumb is sewn to the steel plate for a secure weapon grip, while the rest of the glove is loosely fitted under straps, allowing for a custom fit for maximum comfort.
Please Note: While these gauntlets are crafted from very durable steel, they are not certified protective equipment suitable for full-contact combat sports like buhurt (HMB, Battle of the Nations, etc.).

Born in the Heart of the Renaissance: The Famous "Avant" Armour
These steel gauntlets are a careful reproduction of the original, which is part of the complete suit of plate armour known as "Avant". This armour, dated to circa 1440, is a prime example of Milanese armour-smithing artistry. It was originally housed in the armoury of Churburg Castle in South Tyrol. Today, it is one of the most prized exhibits in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, Scotland. With these gauntlets, you're not just wearing a piece of steel, but a piece of true European history.
Maintenance for Eternal Glory
To keep your steel gauntlets from losing their shine and starting to rust, they need proper care. After each use, wipe them thoroughly with a dry, soft cloth to remove fingerprints and moisture. For long-term protection, regularly treat them with a thin layer of preservative oil (like WD-40 or mineral oil). Always let the leather liner air-dry naturally; never dry it near a direct heat source. Store them in a dry place, and they will serve you for many battles to come.
