Steel Arm Bracers, Plain Style, 28 cm Length
Reliable Protection in a Universal Design
These arm plates, historically known as vambraces, are crafted from mild steel and feature a smooth, polished finish. Their shape is slightly tapered to best follow the anatomy of the arm and not restrict movement. A key safety feature is the carefully rounded and rolled edges, which prevent cuts and increase comfort during wear, even in the heat of battle. The inside is treated with a black coating to protect the armour from corrosion.
The bracers are secured to the arm with two sturdy genuine leather straps, approximately 3.5 mm thick, which are fitted with heavy-duty steel buckles. This allows you to easily and quickly adjust the armour to fit your arm perfectly, whether you wear it over bare skin, a shirt, or a gambeson.
The product is available in several material thicknesses to meet your specific needs:
- 0.9 mm (20 Gauge): Ideal for Cosplay, theatre, and LARP, where low weight and appearance are important.
- 1.2 mm (18 Gauge): A great compromise for more demanding LARP and light contact fighting.
- 1.6 mm (16 Gauge): The most robust option, suitable for historical re-enactment, where maximum protection is emphasised.
Please note: Although these bracers are made from durable steel, they are not certified protective armour suitable for full-contact combat sports like buhurt (HMB, Battle of the Nations, etc.).

Forearms Secured: From the History of Plate Armour
Protecting the arms has been crucial on the battlefield since ancient times. With the development of weapons and tactics during the 14th and 15th centuries, there was a gradual shift from mail to plate armour, which offered significantly better protection against cutting and thrusting attacks. Vambraces were among the first pieces of plate armour to be widely used. They were typically worn over a padded gambeson or mail sleeve. Their purpose was to protect the vulnerable area between the elbow and the wrist. This simple and functional design was typical for common soldiers and knights who could not afford the ornate, custom-forged armour of the high nobility. It is their very simplicity and effectiveness that make them a timeless piece of equipment.
Caring for Your New Armour
To ensure these steel bracers serve you for a long time and maintain their shine, you need to care for them properly. After each use, wipe them with a dry cloth to remove sweat and moisture. To prevent rust, regularly treat the outer surface with a thin layer of oil (e.g., WD-40 or a similar protective oil). Occasionally treat the leather straps with a leather conditioner to keep them supple and prevent cracking. Store the armour in a dry place. Never leave it lying in damp grass or a humid basement.
