Round Barbarian Shield with Hammered Finish, 55 cm
Impressive Design and Sturdy Construction
This steel shield is crafted from 1.6 mm thick mild steel, giving it substantial durability and a realistic weight. The first thing you'll notice is the distinctive dimpled texture, created by hundreds of hammer blows, which not only looks fantastic but also helps to deflect cuts and thrusts. The entire surface is blackened, giving it a dark, authentic look and protecting it from corrosion.
The centre of the shield features a massive steel boss (umbo) that effectively protects the wielder's hand. The rim of the shield is reinforced with a decorative, braided wire, completing its original design. On the back, you will find a sturdy steel handle, clad with wood for a more comfortable and secure grip, and firmly riveted to the shield.
Versatile Use for Warriors and Collectors
Thanks to its universal design, this shield is perfect for a wide range of characters and fantasy-inspired historical periods. Whether you're portraying a fearless barbarian, a northern Viking, a rugged mercenary, or a hero from a fantasy world, this shield will perfectly enhance your character. It is ideal for:
- LARP and Cosplay: Its appearance and durability make it a great addition for any battle.
- Historical Festivals and Re-enactment: Although it's a fantasy design, its foundation is based on historical round shields.
- Theatrical Performances and Film: It serves as an impressive and durable prop.
- Decoration: Hung on a wall, it will become an original feature of your interior.
From the History of Round Shields
Round shields are among the oldest and most widespread types of protective armour in history. Their simplicity, effectiveness, and relatively easy production made them suitable for mass use across cultures and centuries. They were made famous primarily by the Vikings and Saxons in the Early Middle Ages, who masterfully used them in their feared shield walls. The shield was not just for passive defence but also for active combat—parrying blows, binding an opponent's weapon, and delivering direct strikes with the edge or the boss.
