Horn Bowl with Brass Rim, approx. 12 cm
An Authentic Accessory for Your Table
This bowl made of horn is more than just a container; it's a piece of history. You'll appreciate its robust yet lightweight design in any historical camp, whether you're portraying a Viking, a Saxon, or a medieval pilgrim. The natural material not only looks great but also feels pleasantly cool to the touch. It will serve you as a stylish fruit bowl (like in the picture with the cherries), for nuts, berries, or for a small portion of food, like morning porridge or a cold evening snack, as seen in one of the photographs.
The History of Using Horn
Vessels made from horn and bone have been with humanity since prehistoric times. Horn was readily available, easy to work with, and far more durable than pottery of the time. In the Middle Ages, especially among Germanic and Norse peoples, horn cups and bowls were common everyday items. The brass fitting on the rim was not just for decoration; it also protected the most stressed part of the vessel from splitting and increased its lifespan and value.

Care and Maintenance to Ensure a Long Life
To keep your horn bowl beautiful and functional for many years, please give it a little care. It is a natural material that is sensitive to extreme conditions.
- Hand Wash ONLY: Wash the bowl by hand in lukewarm (not hot!) water with a little mild soap. Dry it immediately.
- NO Dishwasher: A dishwasher will permanently damage, warp, and crack the bowl.
- NO Microwave: Never put the bowl in the microwave.
- BEWARE of Heat: The bowl is intended for cold and lukewarm food and drinks. Hot soup or boiling liquids can cause the material to crack or damage the internal lacquer.
- Alcohol Limit: Suitable for drinks with an alcohol content of up to 20%. Avoid hard spirits or acidic drinks, which could damage the lacquer.
- Regular Maintenance: To extend its life and prevent it from drying out, we recommend treating the outside of the bowl from time to time with beeswax or a food-safe oil (e.g., coconut oil).
- Natural Material: The bowl is made from ethically sourced cattle horn. Despite careful treatment, like any natural material, it can change over time and develop fine cracks, which is a natural characteristic.
