Construction and Comfort
These leg guards are handmade from 18 gauge mild steel (approx. 0.9 - 1.0 mm). This makes them sturdy yet lightweight enough for all-day wear. Each greave is constructed from two steel plates (the shin guard and the knee cop) which are riveted together to form a single solid piece. Please note, this is a rigid construction—the joint is not articulated. This design ensures durability and simplicity, though it may lift slightly at the thigh during deep squats.
A prominent central ridge runs down the front, providing structural strength (fluting) and helping to deflect blows away from the shin. The interior is coated with black paint to provide resistance against rust caused by sweat and humidity, extending the life of your gear.
Fastening and Fit
Gearing up is quick and easy. On the back, you will find two robust leather straps with adjustable iron buckles. These allow you to tighten the greaves securely to your leg, whether you are wearing them over padded chausses or simple medieval trousers. The size is designed to be universal, fitting most adults comfortably.

- Storage: Keep your armor in a dry place. Moisture is the main enemy of mild steel.
- Oiling: Wipe the steel clean with a soft cloth after every use to remove fingerprints and moisture. Apply a light coat of oil (such as mineral oil, gun oil, or WD-40) before storage to prevent rust.
- Leather: Occasionally treat the leather straps with a leather conditioner to prevent cracking.
