Flat Rings 9 mm with Round Rivets, Mild Steel, 1 kg Pack
For Armourers and DIY Enthusiasts
Whether you need to patch a hole in your hauberk after a tough battle, extend the sleeves, or create your own aventail, this kit is perfect for you. The package includes both flat steel rings and a corresponding quantity of round rivets, so you don't need to source anything else. Working with riveted rings is a fundamental skill for anyone serious about historical reenactment.
A Brief Guide to Riveting
Riveting rings is a process that requires patience, but the result is well worth the effort. Here’s a simplified procedure:
- Using pliers, weave an open ring through the mail weave.
- Overlap the ends of the ring so that the holes align.
- Push the rivet through both holes.
- Place the ring and rivet on a solid surface (a small anvil, or for beginners, the face of a large hammer).
- With a smaller hammer or special riveting pliers, carefully peen the tail of the rivet to form a second head, which securely closes the link.
Important Note on the Material
The rings are made from mild steel, which is consistent with historical methods. The material is not stainless. The rings are oiled after production to prevent immediate corrosion. However, during storage and use, natural surface oxidation will occur, manifesting as an uneven darkening and the development of a patina. This is a normal characteristic of the material that gives the armour an authentic look and does not diminish its quality.

Care of Chainmail Armour
To prevent your chainmail from rusting, it is crucial to keep it dry and regularly oiled. After each use, especially in a humid environment, dry it thoroughly. Then, lightly spray it with a preservative oil (e.g., WD-40 or Ballistol) and wipe off any excess with a cloth.
