Chainmail Wine Bottle Cover | Aluminium, Ø 5/16"

Stylish Armour for Your Favourite Drink

This sleeve is made of lightweight aluminium rings, linked using the classic "4-in-1" technique known from historical maille shirts. Thanks to the use of aluminium, the entire cover weighs only about 7 oz, making the bottle easy to handle. The material is anodised, giving it durability and a lasting shine without the fear of rust that would plague common steel upon contact with condensation from a chilled bottle.

The sleeve is designed to fit most standard bottles. Thanks to the flexibility of the mesh and a drawstring at the neck, you can securely fasten it to bottles with a diameter of approximately 3 to 4.7 inches. The bottom fits securely to ensure the bottle does not slip out while still standing firmly on the table.

A Bit of Chainmail History

Although bottles were not dressed in armour in the Middle Ages (glass was expensive and wine was stored in barrels and jugs), the manufacturing technique of this cover is purely historical. Chainmail, or maille, was a key protective element for warriors for centuries, from the Celts and Romans to the High Middle Ages. The "4-in-1" structure (four rings woven through one) provided excellent protection against cuts while maintaining mobility. You now have the opportunity to have this piece of military history right on your table in a modern, decorative form.

How to Care for This Item

To ensure this chainmail cover serves you well and looks great for a long time, follow a few simple rules:

  • Cleaning: If you spill wine on the cover, simply rinse it in lukewarm soapy water and let it air dry. Aluminium does not rust, so oiling is not necessary.
  • Handling: The rings are "butted" (not riveted) and made of aluminium, which is softer than steel. Avoid strong crushing, pulling, or dropping heavy objects on the cover to prevent the rings from opening.
  • Storage: Store it in a dry place, ideally draped over an empty bottle to help it keep its shape.
