Hand-Forged Trapper Outdoor Knife with Rosewood Handle and Leather Sheath

History and Practical Use of the Knife

The trapper knife historically served hunters, woodsmen, and trappers in North America for processing game and performing everyday tasks in the harsh wilderness. Today, it is an ideal tool for bushcraft, camping, and hunting purposes. The DNH7 steel blade is hand-forged and differentially hardened – the cutting edge itself reaches an incredible hardness of 60 HRC for long-lasting sharpness, whilst the spine retains a flexibility of around 44 HRC. This process, typical for the crafting of traditional samurai swords, absorbs shocks and prevents the blade from snapping during heavy work. Visually, this contrast is acknowledged by leaving a rough forged surface (brut de forge) on the spine and a mirror-polished bevel. The handle, made of hard and durable rosewood, ensures a firm and secure grip. The knife is safely finished with a robust bolster made of polished stainless steel, which protects your fingers from slipping onto the edge. The package also includes a precisely stitched, sturdy leather sheath for safe carrying on your belt and a soft transport case.

Guidelines for Safe Handling

The blade is extremely sharp from the factory. The knife is designed for practical outdoor use and precise work with wood or meat. Never use it as a pry bar, a stone chisel, or for chopping thick bones, as this could lead to the extreme hard edge chipping. Exercise the utmost caution when handling it and drawing it from the leather sheath to avoid deep cuts. The knife must not be left in the hands of children without constant adult supervision.

Caring for Carbon Steel and Rosewood

The blade is made of DNH7 carbon steel, which is not stainless. To keep the knife in perfect condition and prevent corrosion, never leave it damp and under no circumstances put it in a dishwasher. Wipe it dry after every use in nature, especially if you have been cutting wet wood, acidic foods, or fruit. Before storing it in the sheath, treat the blade with a thin layer of gun oil, or pure food-safe oil if you plan to use it for preparing meals. It is advisable to occasionally rub the rosewood handle with linseed oil or beeswax so that the wood does not dry out and retains its beautiful grain.
