Flat Loose Chainmail Rings with Wedge Rivets – 9 mm (1 kg)

Are you a demanding re-enactor who settles only for the best? If you are building armour for the High or Late Middle Ages (14th–16th centuries), ordinary round rivets simply won't cut it. The historical reality of European battlefields belonged to flat rings with wedge rivets. This set allows you to craft or repair armour that will withstand even the strictest scrutiny of historians and "rivet counters." The triangular shape of the rivet (wedge) ensures an extremely strong bond that won't easily burst upon impact, and the flat profile of the ring distributes the energy of a blow better than round wire. Flat Loose Chainmail Rings with Wedge Rivets – 9 mm (1 kg)

The Pinnacle of Medieval Armouring

While the Early Middle Ages made do with round rivets, armour had to evolve with the advent of stronger crossbows and thrusting weapons. The flat ring riveted with a wedge is the technological apex of maille. This set contains rings made of mild steel with a natural finish, giving the armour a raw, authentic appearance (steel grey). This set is ideal for crafting maille additions to plate armour – aventails (camails), sleeves, skirts, or voiders for armpits and elbows.

Crafting and Maintenance Tips

Working with wedge rivets is a master-class skill. * **Tools:** Please note that for this type of rivet, you need **special pliers** designed for wedge rivets. You will not be able to close this joint correctly with pliers intended for round dome rivets. * **Combination:** To speed up work and increase durability, I recommend combining these riveted rings with our **solid (punched) flat rings** of the same size. Historically, rows of solid and riveted rings often alternated. * **Care:** The rings are made of carbon steel, so they will rust without oil. They arrive oiled, and you should maintain the finished product in the same way.

Safety Warning

The product contains small parts (rivets) that can be easily inhaled or swallowed. Keep out of reach of children. Wear safety glasses when working – snipped pieces of rivets can fly off at high speeds.
