How to Attach the Fitting – A Riveting Guide
Attaching this decorative mount is a straightforward process you can do yourself with a bit of handiwork. It's the finishing touch that will personalize your gear.
What You'll Need:
- A hammer (preferably with a ball-peen head)
- Hole punch or punching pliers (e.g., our Leather Hole Punch Pliers No. 9602)
- Brass washers (we recommend Brass Washers No. 10324)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Carefully mark the spots on your leather where the fitting's posts will go.
- Punch holes at the marked spots with a diameter matching the posts (approx. 3.5 mm).
- Push the posts of the fitting through the prepared holes in the leather.
- From the back, place one brass washer onto each post.
- Trim the posts so they protrude only about 2-3 mm past the washer.
- Place the fitting face-down on a soft surface (a piece of scrap leather, soft wood) to avoid damaging it.
- Carefully peen the ends of the posts with the hammer. It's better to use many light taps rather than heavy force. The posts will mushroom out, creating a permanent rivet that holds the fitting securely in place.

The skull and crossbones, known as the Jolly Roger, is the most famous symbol of the Golden Age of Piracy. The goal of hoisting this flag was singular: to invoke such fear in the crew of a target ship that they would surrender without a fight.
