Gothic Leather Belt Wirnt with Sharply Angled Trapezoidal Buckle
Historical Context and Gothic Fashion
During the High and Late Middle Ages (14th and 15th centuries), the belt became the absolute focal point of both male and female attire. Because period clothing lacked internal pockets, the belt served as the carrier for all daily equipment – daggers, fighting knives, pouches, coin purses, and rosaries were all suspended from it. Trapezoidal and angular buckles were highly popular at that time because they visually harmonised with the vertical and sharp lines of Gothic architecture and fashion. The buckle on this model is hand-sewn to the strap using strong linen thread, exactly corresponding to the traditional leatherworking practices of medieval craftsmen. The subtle perimeter groove adds a clean and neat look to the leather.
How to Properly Wear and Tie the Belt
The length of 150 cm (59 inches) is not without purpose for a historical belt – it is designed for the traditional method of tying. You simply fasten the belt at the buckle, pass the long free end underneath the fastened strap from the bottom up, and thread it down through the resulting loop. This creates a secure knot, leaving the remainder of the strap hanging casually towards the knee. To ensure the belt fits your physique perfectly over any layers of your costume (from a thin linen shirt to a thick woollen coat or gambeson), it is deliberately supplied without pre-punched holes. Using a leather hole punch, you can easily create the holes exactly where your waistline requires them.
Proper Genuine Leather Care Instructions
This quality belt is made of genuine cowhide leather with a respectable thickness of over 3 mm (0.13 inches). Minor variations in colour and surface texture are natural properties of this material and make each piece an inimitable original. To ensure the leather maintains its extreme strength, flexibility, and stability over the long term, it requires regular maintenance. We recommend treating the strap at least once a season, or after getting wet in the rain, with a high-quality leather balm based on beeswax. Never dry the leather near a direct heat source (radiator, hairdryer, open campfire), otherwise it could harden and crack.
Crucial Warnings
The belt is designed as part of a historical costume and a practical clothing accessory for fencing and LARP. It is in no way a certified safety device. Never use it to secure people against falls or for pulling heavy loads, as this could damage the buckle or the strap itself.
Recommended Accessories
