Blackfield Tactical Tomahawk – Axe with Spike and Paracord Grip

More Than Just an Axe

The head of this tomahawk is made of 420 stainless steel. This steel is ideal for outdoor tools as it resists corrosion excellently and is easy to sharpen even in field conditions. The blade is designed not only for chopping; on the opposite side of the head, you will find a sharp penetrating spike. This serves for piercing sheet metal, hard materials, or smashing ice or glass. The head features skeletonized cutouts to reduce weight, shifting the centre of gravity closer to the handle and allowing for faster swings.

The handle is made of durable nylon fibre, which is lightweight and virtually indestructible. For maximum comfort and grip security, the lower part of the haft is wrapped in black paracord. This wrapping not only absorbs sweat and dampens shock to the palm, but in an emergency, you can unwrap it to gain several metres of strong rope for building a shelter or repairing gear. There is also a hole at the end of the handle with a wrist lanyard to prevent the axe from flying out of your hand during a vigorous swing.

Usage and History

The tomahawk has its roots with the indigenous people of North America, but its versatility has brought it into the kit of modern special forces (e.g., during the Vietnam War or current conflicts). Originally serving as both a weapon and a tool, today you will appreciate it primarily when camping (preparing kindling, hammering pegs with the flat part of the head), during outdoor activities, or for sports throwing at targets. This Blackfield Tactical model is particularly suitable for tactical scenarios and breaching work thanks to the spike on the back.

Care and Safety

Thanks to the stainless steel and synthetic handle, the tomahawk is almost maintenance-free. Simply clean it of resin and dirt after use. If the axe gets wet, allow the paracord wrapping to dry thoroughly to prevent mould from forming underneath. Keep the blade and spike sharp using a whetstone.

Warning: The rear spike is very sharp and dangerous. Be extremely careful when winding up for a swing so that you do not injure yourself (especially your shoulder or back) or persons standing behind you during the backswing. Always transport the axe in the supplied nylon sheath.
