Natural feathers, typically from turkeys, have been a proven material for arrow stabilization for centuries. Compared to plastic vanes, natural feathers offer much higher forgiveness during the release and are lighter, which shifts the arrow's center of gravity (FOC) forward. The Shield shape provides an aggressive and professional look, while the surface area offers enough drag to stabilize the arrow quickly after leaving the string.

Usage and Installation
These feathers are excellent for wooden arrows, but also for modern carbon or aluminum shafts, especially if you shoot without a mechanical arrow rest. For installation, we recommend using a high-quality fletching glue and a fletching jig. Always degrease the surface before gluing onto carbon shafts. For wood, a base coat of lacquer or sealer is advised to improve adhesion.

Historically, the quality of fletching was a matter of survival. English longbowmen at Agincourt used goose feathers almost exclusively, as they were stiff enough to maintain their shape even in damp conditions. While today’s turkey feathers are softer, modern dyeing and cutting techniques provide perfect aerodynamics that you will appreciate during every practice session or competition.
Care and Maintenance
Natural feathers require a bit more care than plastic vanes. To keep your fletching looking new for a long time, follow these guidelines:
- Avoid water: If feathers get wet, they clump together. In this case, let them air dry. If they become ruffled, simply hold them briefly over water steam – the feather will "reset" and return to its original shape.
- Storage: Store your arrows in a quiver or rack so that the feathers are not compressed or deformed.
- Waterproofing: For rainy weather, we recommend using a special fletching powder or spray waterproofing.
What to avoid: Never clean feathers with aggressive chemicals. Be careful with very hard targets, as passthroughs can damage the feather fibers.
