Black Cord-Wrapped Throwing Knife – 160 mm / 6.3"

Technique and Construction

The knife is made from a single piece of steel (full-tang construction), which is crucial for throwing knives due to durability. The used 420 Stainless Steel is a global standard for common cutlery products – offering excellent corrosion resistance and sufficient toughness so the knife doesn't snap upon impact. The blade features a single edge with a distinct swedge (false edge) on the spine, improving penetration into the target. The handle wrap slightly shifts the centre of gravity backwards, which you will appreciate whether throwing by the blade or the handle.

We recommend reading these Knife Throwing Instructions before use.

A Bit of History and Theory

Knife throwing is not just a circus act but an ancient martial art. From Japanese shuriken and kunai to African throwing irons and the backup knives of European knights – the ability to hit an enemy from a distance has always been valued. Today, it is primarily a relaxing sport that trains focus ("zen in motion"). This type of knife with wrapping resembles modern tactical knives, where functionality and grip reliability are the priority.

Important Usage and Maintenance Principles

A throwing knife is a piece of sports equipment that requires specific handling to last:

  • Suitable Target: This is the most important rule. Always throw only at soft wood (poplar, lime, spruce) or special foam or compressed board targets. If you hit a knot, hard wood (oak), or stone, the knife can break or rebound dangerously. Warranty does not cover breakage due to hitting unsuitable targets.
  • Edge Check: During throwing, small burrs can form on the edges of the knife. Check them regularly and file them down, otherwise, you could get a nasty cut on your next throw.
  • Wrap Care: The cord on the handle is a consumable item. An unlucky hit by another knife can cut it. This is not a defect of the knife – you can easily replace the cord with a new piece of paracord and customize the colour to your style.

I recommend purchasing a high-quality foam target butt with this knife, which will significantly extend the life of the blade and your enjoyment of training.
