It might surprise you that this symbol of police force started as an agricultural tool. The original tonfa from Okinawa served as a handle for turning millstones to grind grain. When rulers banned the carrying of swords, farmers discovered that this handle was an excellent weapon. The long part perfectly covered the bony forearm against katana strikes, and the side handle allowed for lightning-fast counterattacks. In the 20th century, US police forces noticed its effectiveness, giving rise to the legendary PR-24 baton. This version from Blackfield is the direct evolutionary successor of these historical tools, translated into 21st-century polymer.
