Replacement String for Youth Bow – 107 cm / 42 inches

Installation and Usage

This string is an "endless loop" type joined by metal clamps, which is a standard solution for light youth and recreational bows. When stringing (bracing) the bow, ensure that the string loops fit correctly into the nocks (grooves) at the ends of the bow limbs. Make sure the string is not twisted and that the brass crimps do not damage the surface of the limbs. Replacement should always be performed or at least supervised by an adult to prevent injury when bending the bow.

A Look into History

While today we use modern polymers, in the past, making a bowstring was a science. Flax fibres, silk, and hemp were used, but for the strongest bows, animal sinew or gut was preferred. The disadvantage of these natural materials was their reaction to the weather – in the rain, they stretched, and the bow lost power. A synthetic string like this solves this problem. It is stable, does not rot, and has a long service life, which is ideal for beginner archers.

String Care

To make the string last as long as possible:

  • Waxing: Regularly lubricate the fibres with beeswax or special string wax. This prevents fraying and drying out of the fibres.
  • Storage: Always unstring the bow after shooting. If you leave the bow strung for a long time, the limbs fatigue and the string stretches unnecessarily.
  • Safety: Never dry fire (shoot without an arrow). The shot energy has nowhere to transfer and can snap the string or break the bow.

I recommend checking if you also have enough arrows in stock with the correct nocks that fit the string well.
