Replacement Target Point for Aluminium Arrows

Even the highest quality arrow can lose its point or leave it deep inside a target butt after an unfortunate hit on a hard obstacle. For such cases, there is this replacement metal point, designed specifically for aluminium arrows (specifically compatible with model 33055). It is a push-in (glue-in) type that is secured inside the hollow shaft. Thanks to its aerodynamic "bullet" shape, it ensures stable flight and is gentle on target butts, making for easy retrieval. The point weighs approx. 100 grains (approx. 6.5 g), which is the ideal weight for achieving an optimal center of gravity (FOC) for sporting aluminium arrows. Further product information ...

Replacement Target Point for Aluminium Arrows – 100 Grains

Installation and Usage

Unlike screw-in points, which require a threaded insert, this type of point is glued directly into the arrow tube. The shank of the point features grooves designed to hold the adhesive better. For installation, I recommend using special hot melt adhesive for archery points. The process is simple: clean the inside of the tube, heat the adhesive, apply it to the point's shank, and insert it into the arrow with a twisting motion. Once the adhesive cools, the point holds firmly, but can be replaced again after heating if necessary.

A Bit of History: Evolution to Perfection

While medieval armorers forged points that fitted onto wooden shafts using a socket, modern times brought the opposite principle. With the advent of hollow duralumin tubes in the 20th century, a need arose for points that slide inside. This "inverse" system allows the arrow to have the same diameter along its entire length, significantly improving its passage through the air and target material. The "bullet" shape is now the standard for target archery because it does not snag and destroy target butts like sharp hunting or historical points do.

Care and Safety

To ensure your points serve you as long as possible and shooting remains safe:

  • Inspection: Even a glued point can come loose from impacts. Always check before shooting to ensure the point is not wobbling in the arrow.
  • Repair: If the point loosens, simply heat it carefully over a flame (if using hot melt) and push it back in.
  • Safety: Never shoot at rocks, walls, or trees. An aluminium arrow can bend upon impact, and the steel point can deform or be pushed deeper into the shaft, irreparably damaging the arrow.

I recommend keeping a few of these replacement points and a stick of hot melt adhesive in stock so you can perform minor repairs immediately and continue your training.
