Etiquette and Practical Use
While historical samurai carried their swords in their belt (obi) practically all the time, nowadays carrying exposed weapons in public is unacceptable and often illegal. A quality carrying case (sword bag) is therefore a necessity. It allows you to move in public without attracting unwanted attention while protecting your investment in the weapon. This case is suitable for sharp katanas, iaito (blunt practice swords), and wooden bokkens.
Maintenance
Caring for the case is very easy:
- Cleaning: The outer leatherette surface can be simply wiped with a damp cloth if dirty. Do not use aggressive chemicals.
- Storage: Ensure you insert the sword into the case dry and clean. If the case gets wet, let it dry thoroughly while open to prevent mould from forming inside, which could damage the sword.
You might also find a sword cleaning kit useful with this case, which you can carry inside along with the sword.
