Design Inspired by Legends
The appearance of these knives clearly references the iconic "survival" knives with hollow handles that became famous in 80s action movies. They feature a characteristic clip-point blade shape with a hole, which on the large originals served as a wire cutter when combined with the sheath (here it performs an aesthetic function). The handle is metal, cylindrical, with distinct knurling for a firm grip between the fingers and finished with an imitation screw cap. Both knives are full-metal and give a very durable, technical impression.
Practical Use and Carry
This set is an ideal example of EDC (Every Day Carry) gear. The knives are inserted into a shared black sheath made of durable leather-like material, secured by a strap with a snap button. The Survival Knife Phenomenon
The concept of a knife with a hollow handle, in which matches, fish hooks, and other small items can be hidden, was popularized in the 1980s by knifemaker Jimmy Lile with his design for the movie Rambo. Although these miniatures do not have a hollow handle for storing items (due to their size), they faithfully copy the aesthetics of that era, when a knife was not just a cutting tool but a symbol of self-sufficiency in the wild. They are a lovely reminder of the history of modern knifemaking.
Care and Maintenance
To ensure the knives serve you well for a long time:
- Moisture Protection: Even though they are made of stainless steel, wipe them dry after use (e.g., cutting fruit) before returning them to the sheath.
- Sharpening: Due to their small size, I recommend using a fine ceramic rod or a small honing steel.
