Polish Winged Hussars Szyszak Helmet, 1670-1733

The Polish Szyszakis made of steel. It is similar in construction to the Szyszak, but the neck protection is stronger and the helmet has a round calotte rather than a peak like the Chichak. Wings are attached to the sides of the helmet, resembling the wings of bats or dragons. The wings are attached with three rivets for easy replacement if lost or damaged. The nose iron, which sits at the front of the helmet, is secured by a screw and can be pushed in front of the face or upwards if necessary.
