This outfit takes you directly to the period of the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), when European fashion began to break away from the rigid Spanish style, giving rise to relaxed French elegance. Musketeers, as elite infantry and members of royal guards, set the tone not only on the battlefield but also in high society. Loose breeches reaching below the knee replaced the previously padded, bulbous cuts, and doublets acquired characteristic tassets (skirts) that protected the hips while allowing a comfortable seat in a horse saddle or quick movement when drawing a rapier.

The costume is designed with an emphasis on visual accuracy and practical wearability. It consists of three main parts:

• Doublet with Tassets: Made of sturdy olive-green duvetyn (brushed cotton). The front is richly decorated with ornamental trim and a row of buttons. Distinct flared panels and the white serrated trim (Van Dyke style) on the collar and shoulders give the garment its classic Renaissance-Baroque flair. The sleeves are made of contrasting shiny satin with a subtle pattern, mimicking the expensive silk fabrics that only successful soldiers and nobility could afford at the time.
• Breeches (Trousers): A loose-fitting cut extending below the knees, where the legs are gathered into a concealed elastic band to create an elegant ruffled look. The side seams are decorated with buttons that match the doublet.
• Beret: The set includes a stylish duvetyn headpiece adorned with a real feather – an uncompromising status symbol for any cavalier of the era.

How to Properly Wear and Use the Outfit Today

This ensemble is an ideal choice for historical reenactment, living history, theatrical performances, or fantasy LARPs. The doublet should be worn over a linen undershirt. Adjust the breeches below your knees so that the ruffles look natural and do not restrict your movement. Wear the beret slightly tilted to one side, as was the military fashion of the time. The 100% cotton fabric provides excellent breathability and moisture absorption, which you will appreciate during hot summer festival days or intensive movement.

Safety Warnings – What Never to Do

Although the costume is durably constructed, the textile material is not intended as protective armor against real weapon impacts. Do not engage in HEMA fencing or full-contact combat (Buhurt) without adequate hidden protective gear underneath or over the garment. Never expose the costume to an open flame – cotton and especially the delicate satin are flammable. During LARP events in wooded areas, beware of sharp spurs, buckles, or branches that could snag and permanently damage the satin sleeves.

Care and Maintenance Instructions

To ensure your costume looks new for a long time, we strictly recommend gentle hand washing in lukewarm water up to 30 °C (86 °F) using a mild detergent for colored fabrics. Never wring the costume by twisting and do not tumble dry. Let it dry naturally on a hanger. The duvetyn parts can be ironed from the reverse side on a medium setting. Iron the satin sleeves through baking paper or a thin cloth at a low temperature to avoid damaging the fibers. Never submerge the beret with the feather in water; if necessary, clean the feather using dry methods only.

Recommended Accessories for a Complete Set

We recommend complementing this outfit with a wide leather rapier shoulder belt (baldric), a period-accurate rapier with a basket or cup hilt, high leather bucket-top boots, and a white linen shirt with wide sleeves. All these accessories should stylistically correspond to the first half of the 17th century to achieve perfect historical synergy.
