Excalibur Sound Deadening System™
Want to get the absolute most out of your crossbow while remaining as silent as a shadow? With the Sound Deadening System from the legendary Excalibur brand, you can transform your rig into a perfectly tuned, deadly quiet precision tool. This comprehensive four-component package is meticulously engineered to eliminate unwanted noise and shock throughout the entire crossbow. By reducing vibration, you not only gain a much smoother and more enjoyable shooting experience but also a decisive advantage in the field. Less noise means your target has far less time to react to the sound of the string. It’s a smart investment in silence that pays off with more accurate shots and higher success rates. This system works like a perfectly synchronized orchestra, with each component playing its specific role. The kit includes an over-molded rubberized stirrup that dampens vibration at the very front of the bow, Ex-Shox™ sound dampeners for the limbs, String Stars for the bowstring, and R.A.V.S. limb silencers. All components are made from high-durability materials designed to withstand the massive kinetic forces of modern recurve crossbows. Installation is intuitive, and you will feel the difference immediately—the sharp "crack" of the shot is replaced by a deep, subdued "thud." If you’re serious about your shooting, this is an essential upgrade for your setup. Further product information ...

Purpose and Benefits of Sound Suppression
The primary purpose of this system is user comfort and stealth. Modern crossbows unleash incredible power, and while most of it goes into the arrow, some energy is always converted into unwanted vibration and sound. These vibrations strain your hands and your optics, and the noise can alert game. With the Sound Deadening System, your crossbow won't "bark"—it delivers energy to the arrow in a subdued manner. Your shot becomes more stable, kick is reduced, and you can better track your arrow's flight through the scope.
Did You Know? Sound Speed vs. Arrow Speed
Did you know that sound travels at approximately 343 metres per second, while even the fastest crossbows fire arrows at around 120 metres per second? Without proper dampening, the target will hear the shot long before the arrow arrives. This is why noise suppression is so critical—it gives you those precious fractions of a second that decide between a hit and a miss.
Care and Maintenance of Dampening Elements
To keep the rubber components from hardening or becoming brittle, keep them clean. After shooting in the rain, wipe them down with a dry cloth. If they get dusty, simply use lukewarm water. Never use oils or aggressive solvent-based cleaners, as these will degrade the rubber or change its properties. Periodically check that the Ex-Shox are still firmly attached and that the String Stars are not worn out from high-volume shooting.
What to Avoid
- Oil Lubrication: Any petroleum-based products will permanently damage the rubber.
- Mechanical Damage: When transporting your bow in a case, ensure the dampeners don't snag on sharp objects.
- Dry Firing: Even the best dampeners cannot protect a crossbow from a dry fire (firing without an arrow)—doing so will likely destroy the dampeners and damage the limbs.
Recommended Arrow Parameters for a Suppressed Bow
For the best results with this system, we recommend using arrows that help absorb energy through weight:
- Arrow Length: 16.5" or 18" (depending on your model)
- Shaft Material: High-modulus carbon for maximum strength
- Point Weight: 125–150 grains (heavier points further quiet the shot)
- Nock: Rhino Nock (aluminium flat nock for safe energy transfer)
Recommended Accessories
Your stealth setup pairs perfectly with R.E.D.S. string suppressors if your bow isn't already equipped with them. For string maintenance when using String Stars, use only high-quality string wax that doesn't leave sticky residues on the dampeners. For transport, we recommend the Tomb Case, which has plenty of room for a fully kitted-out suppressed crossbow.
