Finnish Knife Brisa Polar Puukko 80 | Curly Birch & Carbon Steel

Built for the Nordic Environment

The blade is crafted from 80CrV2 high carbon steel, a material legendary among bushcrafters for its toughness and edge retention. It features a classic Scandi grind, which is ideal for wood carving as it bites deep into the material and is easy to sharpen in the field. The upper part of the blade retains the dark forge scale, giving the knife a rustic, authentic appearance.

The handle is made from Curly Birch (Masur Birch), a dense wood prized for its beautiful, marble-like grain. It is shaped ergonomically to fill the hand comfortably, allowing for extended use without fatigue. Brass bolsters and pommel caps, separated by black fibre spacers, add durability and a touch of traditional elegance to the design.

Usage and History

The Puukko is an essential part of Finnish culture, used for centuries as an all-purpose belt knife. The Polar Puukko 80 continues this tradition:

  • Bushcraft: The 8 cm blade is perfect for making feather sticks, carving tent pegs, and general camp crafts.
  • Hunting & Fishing: Sharp and agile, it excels at processing small game and cleaning fish.
  • General Utility: With its slightly longer blade compared to the 77 model, it is more versatile for food preparation while remaining compact enough for fine detail work.

The knife comes with a high-quality leather sheath featuring a stamped reindeer motif and the text "Handmade in Lapland". The deep-pouch design holds the knife securely without the need for snaps.

Care Instructions

To ensure this handmade tool lasts a lifetime, please follow these care tips:

  • Blade: Carbon steel is not stainless. Always wipe the blade dry after use. Apply a thin layer of oil (e.g., camellia or gun oil) for storage to prevent rust. If cutting acidic foods, clean immediately.
  • Handle: Treat the curly birch occasionally with linseed oil or beeswax to protect the wood and enhance the grain.
  • Sheath: Keep the leather supple with a quality leather balm.
  • Warning: Never wash this knife in a dishwasher.

Please note: Curly birch is a natural product, so the colour and grain pattern will vary from knife to knife. Your knife will be unique.

Safety Warning

This knife is a sharp tool designed for cutting and carving. It is not intended for combat reenactment, throwing, or prying. Always use with caution and respect for the sharp edge.
