Traditional Finnish Puukko Knife "Lappland" | Reindeer Antler & Curly Birch

Authentic Scandi Design & Materials

The Puukko is the quintessential Scandinavian fixed blade, designed for versatility and durability. This model features an approx. 8 cm (3.15 inches) blade made from high carbon steel. Carbon steel is favoured by outdoorsmen for its ability to take a razor-sharp edge and for being easy to sharpen in the field. The blade retains a dark scale finish on the flats, giving it a rustic, hand-forged appearance.

The handle is a true highlight, featuring alternating layers of curly birch (also known as Masur birch) and reindeer antler. Its barrel shape fills the hand comfortably, providing excellent grip and control even when wearing gloves or working in cold conditions. Natural materials like wood and antler feel warm to the touch, unlike synthetic handles.

Usage and Historical Context

Historically, the Puukko was an everyday tool carried by the Sami and Finnish people, used for everything from carving wood to processing reindeer meat. This knife stays true to that legacy. It is perfectly suited for:

  • Bushcraft: Excellent for wood carving, making feather sticks, and general camp chores thanks to its Scandi grind geometry.
  • Hunting: The compact blade is agile and sharp, making it suitable for dressing small to medium game.
  • Utility: An all-around reliable tool for any outdoor excursion.

The knife comes with a traditional deep-pouch leather sheath. It securely holds the knife without the need for snaps or straps. Decorated with a stamped moose and track motif, the sheath features a twisted leather thong suspension, allowing it to dangle freely and move with you, ensuring comfort when sitting or kneeling.

Care Instructions

To keep this handmade tool in top condition, please follow these care guidelines:

  • Blade Care: Carbon steel is not stainless! It can rust if left wet. Always wipe the blade dry after use. If cutting acidic foods (fruit, onions), clean immediately. Apply a thin layer of mineral oil or gun oil for storage.
  • Handle Care: The wood and antler can be treated occasionally with linseed oil or beeswax to protect them and enhance the grain.
  • Sheath Care: Keep the leather supple with a quality leather balm or beeswax.
  • Avoid: Never wash this knife in a dishwasher.

Please note: As curly birch and reindeer antler are natural products, the grain, colour, and pattern will vary from piece to piece. The photos are for reference only; your knife will be unique.

Safety Warning

This knife features a sharp, functional blade intended for cutting purposes. It is not a toy, nor is it designed for combat reenactment or throwing. Use with caution to prevent injury. Always handle with respect for the sharp edge.
