Battle-Worn Appearance
Sigurn is a high-quality foam weapon designed to look authentic. The blade features a distinct weathered patina texture, mimicking steel that has seen many winters and battles. It doesn't look like a shiny parade weapon, but rather a reliable tool of war. A central fuller runs down the blade, reducing weight and adding to the realistic historical silhouette.
The hilt is designed for both looks and grip:
- The Grip: The handle features a striking burgundy/dark red colour that imitates dyed leather wrapping. The segmented rings ensure a secure, non-slip grip even during intense combat.
- Guard and Pommel: The silver-coloured crossguard is slightly curved towards the blade, adding an elegant touch. The massive, five-lobed pommel provides excellent balance and is an iconic feature of Viking weaponry.
Historical Inspiration
The design is loosely based on Viking swords from the 9th to 11th centuries. The lobed pommel resembles the Jan Petersen typology (Type O or S). The curved guard suggests a style that offered slightly better hand protection than the earlier straight bars. In historical context, a sword with a red-dyed grip would likely belong to a wealthy warrior or chieftain, as dyes were a luxury.

Care and Safety Instructions
Sigurn is built for safety in LARP combat, Cosplay, and theatre. A sturdy fibreglass core ensures stability within the soft foam.
- Maintenance: To keep the foam flexible and the finish looking new, apply silicone spray regularly. This prevents the material from drying out or cracking.
- Storage: Avoid storing the sword in direct sunlight or extreme heat, as this can degrade the foam. Store it flat to prevent bending.
- Usage: Do not strike hard or abrasive surfaces like concrete or rocks. Although safe for combat, avoid full-force stabbing (thrusting).
