The Ideal Choice for Long Weapons
This product is supplied as a raw blank. Its generous length allows you to realize projects for which standard sticks are too short:
- Longbow Making: With a length of 183 cm (approx. 72 inches), this stave is ideal for making English Longbow-style bows up to the "Strongbow" category. Rattan can be easily shaped, bent, and recurved when heated with a heat gun or steam. It is the best material for both beginner and advanced bowyers because it is forgiving of construction errors.
- Quarterstaff and Polearms: In HEMA and stage combat, rattan is the standard for safe training. This length corresponds to a classic quarterstaff or a long Asian Bo staff. At the same time, it can serve as a safe haft for spears, halberds, and glaives when fitted with a rubber or padded head on this flexible base.
- LARP & Cosplay: Rattan makes an excellent core for long foam weapons because it does not snap as easily as fiberglass or wood.

History and Safety
Although rattan originates from the tropical rainforests of Asia and was unknown in medieval Europe, today it is an indispensable companion for every fencer. Its internal structure resembles a bundle of strong ropes embedded in a softer mass. This means it absorbs vibrations excellently (saving your joints during impact) and is "foolproof." If it breaks, the fibers merely separate (broom out), but the stick remains in one piece, protecting both you and your opponent from injury.
Care Instructions
- Finishing: You can keep the skin for a rustic look or sand it smooth. Rattan absorbs linseed oil and wax well.
- Storage: As a natural material, it must not be kept in damp conditions for long periods to avoid mold.
- Lifespan: If the surface frays during combat, simply sanding the spot or wrapping it with tape is often enough to keep the staff in service.
Important Note: This is a 100% natural product. Small cracks, irregularities, spots, or slight curvature are not defects but natural characteristics of the material. The diameter varies from piece to piece (3.4–4.0 cm) and cannot be selected. These "imperfections" do not affect functionality and are not grounds for return or complaint.
