The product is supplied as a raw blank. It is entirely up to you and your skill what you create from it. Here are a few tips for inspiration:
- Bow Making: The 113 cm length is ideal for making strong short bows (approx. 43") for children or shorter recurve bows. Rattan can be easily bent and shaped after heating (using a heat gun or steam). It is the best material for beginner bowyers because it forgives construction errors that would cause yew or ash to snap.
- Fighting Sticks & Simulators: In HEMA, SCA, or Asian martial arts, rattan is the king of safety. Upon heavy impact, it does not shatter into sharp splinters but merely "brooms out" (fibers separate), significantly reducing the risk of injury to your sparring partner. The diameter of this stick (up to 4.2 cm / 1.65") ensures a good grip and durability.
- Accessories: The blank can also serve as an extremely durable haft for tools or a costume component for LARP.

Why Rattan Instead of Wood?

Its internal structure resembles a sponge permeated with strong fibers. Thanks to this, it absorbs shock better than hardwood. If you are looking for durability for practicing techniques where weapons often clash, rattan is the clear choice.
Maintenance and Care
- Surface: You can remove the skin, sand it smooth, and treat it with oil (linseed, teak) or wax. This will increase its lifespan and aesthetic value.
- Storage: Keep in a dry place. Rattan is prone to mold in damp environments.
- Safety: Although rattan is safer than wood, impacts are still painful. Always wear appropriate protective gear during sparring.
