Weapon Morphology and Materials Used

This weapon represents a fascinating hybrid between a traditional Japanese katana and a European naval cutlass. The slightly curved blade is forged from carbon steel and features a black finish along most of its length, which strongly contrasts with the bright edge line. The handle retains its Asian influence with a traditional diamond-patterned wrap (tsuka-ito) using a green synthetic cord, ensuring a firm grip. Furthermore, the wielder's hand is protected by a solid brass D-guard, a feature typical of European sailors' and pirates' sidearms from the 18th and 19th centuries. The sword comes supplied with an elegant black wooden scabbard, the throat and chape of which are reinforced with stylish brass fittings.

Carbon Steel Maintenance

Because the blade is crafted from true carbon steel, it requires regular maintenance to prevent oxidation (rust). After every time the blade is touched with bare hands, or upon returning from a cosplay event, it is absolutely essential to wipe the steel down with a dry cloth and then protect it with a thin layer of quality gun oil. The wooden scabbard simply needs an occasional wipe with a microfibre cloth to remove dust and maintain its semi-matte lustre.

This sword is designed and manufactured exclusively as a decorative display piece and collector's replica. For strict safety reasons, this weapon is not intended for practical use, such as full-contact historical fencing (HEMA), stage combat, LARP battles, or cutting tests (tameshigiri). Although carbon steel is a hard material, the construction of the hilt and tang is not engineered to withstand impact forces, which could lead to catastrophic failure of the weapon and severe injury. When carrying this weapon in public as part of a costume, always adhere to local laws and event guidelines.
