Authentic Japanese Sword Details
This sword boasts a range of authentic details. The hilt (tsuka) is wrapped in the traditional hineri maki style (classic wrap) with a black cord (tsuka-ito). Beneath the wrap, the light beige imitation ray skin (same-kawa) is visible. The ornamental fittings (koshirae) are finished in a steel colour. These include:
- Tsuba (Guard): Decorated with a fish relief (likely a Koi carp).
- Menuki (Ornament under the wrap): A golden dragon motif, a symbol of strength and wisdom.
- Kashira (Pommel): A simple, functional end-cap for the hilt.
- Habaki (Blade Collar): In a brass colour.
Historical Context: The Sword of Honour
The wakizashi is a traditional Japanese short sword worn by samurai alongside the katana as part of the daishō ("large-small") pair. It served as a backup weapon, but primarily as a weapon for fighting in confined spaces where the long katana would be too cumbersome. When a samurai entered a castle or palace, he had to surrender his katana at the entrance but was allowed to keep his wakizashi for personal protection. This sword was considered the "guardian of honour," and a samurai was almost never parted from it. It was also used for ritual suicide (seppuku).

Care for Your Foam Weapon
To ensure your LARP weapon serves you well for a long time, give it proper care. Wipe it clean of dirt and moisture after each use. Regularly treat it with silicone oil, which keeps the foam supple and prevents it from drying out and cracking. Store the weapon in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures (e.g., do not leave it in a hot car).
Important Notice: This weapon is intended exclusively for LARP, practice, and cosplay. Never use it against steel weapons, hard edges, or for prying. Do not subject it to extreme bends or excessive force, as this could break the fibreglass core.
