Design and Historical Context

Although this is a modern writing instrument inspired by Japanese comics, its shape is strictly based on the traditional Japanese sword, the katana. The handle, called the tsuka, is coloured white with gold elements and its surface imitates the traditional diamond-shaped wrapping (tsuka-ito). It is finished with a decorative gold pommel, the kashira. The handle is separated from the main body of the pen (representing the blade) by a beautifully shaped guard, the tsuba, which in this case has a four-lobed shape with gold edging. The scabbard of the sword, traditionally called the saya, serves as an elegant cap for the pen here. Its bright white surface is decorated with dynamic yellow and gold lightning bolts.

Usage and Safety Warnings

This ballpoint pen is fully disassemblable. To start writing, simply pull the body of the pen out of the scabbard (saya) in one smooth motion. When you are finished, the pen is simply pushed back in, protecting the nib from drying out and preventing damage. The package includes an elegant black stand (kake) on which the pen is displayed horizontally, exactly how real samurai swords were historically kept in Japanese residences.

As this is a miniature replica of a Japanese sword with a sharp writing tip, safety must be observed. The product is not suitable for practical fencing practice, contact combat, or cutting tests (tameshigiri). It is strictly a decorative writing tool. For safety reasons, never fence with the pen or point the nib at the face or vulnerable parts of yourself or others, as this could cause injury. Improper handling also risks irreversible damage to the writing mechanism.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure this beautiful piece serves you as long as possible, we recommend protecting it from falls onto hard surfaces, which could chip the paintwork or deform the metal casting. Simply wipe the surface of the pen occasionally with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid using aggressive chemical cleaners, which could damage the decoration and lacquer. When replacing the ink refill, proceed carefully so as not to damage the internal thread.
