A Faithful Representation of a Gothic Masterpiece
This replica is made with the utmost attention to historical accuracy, based on the ducats that Charles IV had minted following his coronation as Holy Roman Emperor in 1355. It differs from his earlier, royal coinage primarily in the shape of the crown, which features the distinctive imperial arch.
- Obverse (front): Depicts a half-length portrait of the sovereign in a majestic pose. Charles IV holds the symbols of his power – the royal sceptre and the imperial orb. His head is adorned with the closed imperial crown. The Latin inscription reads: + KAROLVS DEI GRATIA (Charles by the Grace of God).
- Reverse (back): Features the heraldic two-tailed Bohemian lion rampant, a design that continues the tradition of the Prague Groschen. The inscription on this side completes Charles's title: ROMANORVM ET BOEMIE REX (King of the Romans and of Bohemia).
The Story of the Father of the Fatherland's Coin
Charles IV (1316–1378), King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, is rightly considered one of the most important European monarchs. His reign brought unprecedented prosperity, stability, and prestige to the Czech lands. He founded Charles University, commissioned the Charles Bridge, and established the New Town of Prague.
A lesser-known but incredibly important fact is that his monetary reform elevated the Bohemian gold ducat to the status of the hardest and most sought-after currency in Europe. Thanks to its stable and high purity of gold, this coin was a symbol of wealth, security, and a reliable means of payment in international trade for centuries, from the German principalities to Poland and Hungary.

How to Care for Your Treasure
The coin is made of brass, which will best retain its shine if kept in a dry place. To restore its original lustre, you can gently polish it with a soft cloth using a commercially available brass cleaner. Protect the coin from harsh chemicals and abrasive materials. Due to the manual striking process, individual pieces may vary slightly in detail. The specified parameters are approximate.
