LARP Katana Foam Sword, Samurai Sword
Design and Construction Down to the Last Detail
This LARP katana boasts all the characteristic features of its historical counterpart. It is defined by its elegant, slightly curved, single-edged blade (ha), which allows for swift and fluid strikes. A firm grip is ensured by the hilt (tsuka) with a traditional black fabric wrapping (tsuka-ito), beneath which a light-coloured imitation rayskin (samegawa) is visible. Your hand is protected by an ornate circular guard (tsuba), and the entire hilt is elegantly finished with a pommel (kashira).
Inside, a fibreglass core provides flexibility and durability. For a perfect feel during use, the weapon is precisely balanced using a steel tube and lead in the handle, making it feel like a real sword. Furthermore, the tip of the blade is reinforced with Kevlar for maximum safety during thrusts.
Create Your Own Legendary Katana
We offer you the unique opportunity to assemble a sword exactly to your specifications. Choose carefully from the following options to create your one-of-a-kind weapon:
- Blade Length: Choose the ideal length for your combat style – 50 cm, 60 cm, or 70 cm.
- Hilt Wrap Style (Tsuka-ito): Decide between the traditional "classic" wrap (hineri maki) and the simpler yet sturdy "battle" wrap (hira maki).
- Wrap Colour: Match your sword to your armour by choosing between black or brown.
- Ornaments (Menuki): Beneath the wrap, we will place a detailed ornament in the form of a golden dragon, a symbol of strength and wisdom in Japanese mythology.
A Fact from the World of LARP
Did you know that in many LARP systems and rule sets, the katana is often considered a "masterwork" weapon? Due to its reputation and elegant appearance, it often grants characters not only style but also special in-game bonuses, such as faster attacks or the ability to pierce light armour, reflecting its historical effectiveness in the hands of a master.
A Piece of History in Your Hands
The katana became the dominant weapon of the samurai during the late feudal period (14th-16th centuries). The changing nature of combat, which became faster and more personal, demanded a weapon that could be drawn and struck in a single, fluid motion (a technique known as iaijutsu). The katana, worn with its edge facing upwards through the obi belt, was perfect for this purpose. It was not just a weapon, but a symbol of status, honour, and the soul of its wielder.
Care and Safety
How to Care for the Samurai's Soul
Your katana deserves respect. It is designed for combat with foam adversaries, not stones or trees. Do not leave it compressed for long periods when in storage. Minor damage to the foam can be easily repaired with a flexible superglue. Remember, a broken core is an injury that cannot be healed.
Safety First
Although this is a safe foam weapon, always use it responsibly. Never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas, and always use approved protective gear.
Recycling Notice
The excellent balance of this weapon is achieved by using a small amount of lead in the handle. When this replica reaches the end of its life, please take it to a recycling centre for proper disposal.
