Viking Sword for LARP - Petersen Type H
Design and Construction Down to the Last Detail
This sword immediately catches the eye with its characteristic hilt, typical for the Type H. It consists of a lower and upper guard with an oval, slightly "boat-like" shape. The hilt is topped by a massive, two-part pommel with a distinctive three-lobed profile. The 95 mm long grip is wrapped in genuine leather, ensuring a firm hold even with gloved hands. The wide, 5.5 cm blade features a shallow, broad fuller that gives it a realistic look and excellent balance. Furthermore, the tip of the blade is reinforced with Kevlar for maximum safety and durability.
Unmatched Customisation Options
Create a sword perfectly suited to your character and combat style:
- Blade Length: 40 to 70 cm
- Sword Core: Choose from three types of fibreglass cores based on your preferred stiffness and weight – rectangular 15x6 mm, a stiffer 16x8 mm, or a 10mm round core.
- Single-Edged Blade: Want something extra? Choose the historically accurate single-edged version! Nearly a quarter of all Type H sword finds featured this very blade.
- Colours: Select the colour of the metallic parts (steel, graphite, brass) and the leather grip wrap (black, brown, red, green, blue).
- Optional Accessories: Can be supplied with an optional leather scabbard.
Use in Combat: Reliability and Power
This sword is a fully-fledged combat weapon for LARP. It is fitted with our durable "Harder FakeSteel Blade," designed to withstand rough use and provide excellent performance in battle. Whether you are charging into a shield wall or fighting a duel, this sword will be your reliable companion.
How to Care For Your Weapon
To ensure your sword survives many battles and maintains its appearance, give it the proper care.
- It's a weapon for foam foes, not for chopping wood. Avoid hitting hard surfaces like rocks, trees, walls, or the sharp edges of armour and shields.
- When storing, do not leave the sword compressed under other gear for extended periods.
- Minor damage to the foam can be easily repaired with a flexible superglue (we recommend Loctite Super Glue Power Flex Gel).
- However, remember that a broken core is a fatal wound that cannot be healed.
A Piece of History in Your Hands
In the 1920s, Norwegian archaeologist Jan Petersen created the most respected typology of Viking swords. Type H swords, dated to the 9th and 10th centuries, are the most common in the archaeological record. Their two-part pommels were often decorated with precious metal inlays, indicating the high status of their owners. The distribution of this type throughout the Viking diaspora, from England to Kievan Rus', attests to its popularity and effectiveness. To own this sword is to hold a piece of true Norse history.
Safety First
Even though this is a safe foam weapon, always use it responsibly. Its solid construction can deliver a palpable hit. Always control your slashes and thrusts, and never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas. Use appropriate protective gear.
