British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sabre for LARP / PU Foam Sabre

Appearance and Construction

This sabre is designed for a single purpose: a devastating cut from horseback. Its wide, dramatically curved blade maximizes slashing power. Its most characteristic feature, however, is its simple yet elegant "P-shaped" stirrup hilt, which provides excellent hand protection without restricting wrist movement. The ribbed grip ensures a firm hold even in gloves. The entire hilt is cast from durable yet semi-flexible rubber, ensuring high durability without sharp edges.

The Dragoon's Heart

Inside this elegant weapon lies a modern and durable construction that ensures great performance and safety in battle:

  • Curved Core: A durable 15x6 mm fibreglass core follows the blade's graceful curve.
  • Kevlar Tip: The blade tip is reinforced with Kevlar for maximum resistance to piercing through.
  • Perfect Balance: Steel and lead are cast into the handle, giving the weapon authentic weight and excellent balance for fast and precise handling.

Available Versions:

  • Blade Length: 50 to 70 cm.
  • Hilt Colour: Steel / Graphite / Brass.
  • Optional Accessories: Without scabbard / Including scabbard Type I, II, or III (see product gallery).

Use in Combat: Cavalry Charge!

The 1796 Pattern sabre was renowned for its brutality. It was purely a cutting weapon, with its weight and blade shape optimized for horrific wounds delivered at the charge. This LARP version retains the characteristic balance that makes it ideal for fast, powerful cuts. It is the perfect weapon for any Napoleonic cavalry character, whether serving under Wellington, Blücher, or any other commander of the era.

How to Care For Your Weapon

Even a weapon of the Empire requires care to maintain its lustre.

  • The blade is meant for cutting foam foes, not rocks, trees, or walls.
  • Do not leave it compressed for long periods during storage.
  • Minor damage to the foam can be easily repaired with a flexible superglue (we recommend Loctite Super Glue Power Flex Gel).
  • However, remember that a broken core is a wound that cannot be healed.

A Piece of History in Your Hands

The 1796 Pattern sabre was one of the most widespread weapons of its time. It was used not only by British light dragoons and hussars but also by the elite King's German Legion. Its design, influenced by Eastern European and Indian sabres, proved so successful that it was adopted by other armies. The Prussians adopted it as the 1811 Pattern, famously known as the "Blüchersäbel" after Field Marshal Blücher, who called it his favourite weapon. You are holding a weapon that helped decide the battles that shaped modern Europe.

Safety First

Even though this is a safe foam weapon, always use it responsibly. Never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas. Use appropriate protective gear.
