'Zizka' Hussite Mace for LARP / PU Foam Mace
Appearance and Construction
The heart of this weapon is its massive six-flanged head, with edges designed to concentrate the full force of a blow into a single point, crushing bone and armour alike. The entire weapon is made as a single piece of foam over a durable fibreglass core, which eliminates joints and increases its overall resilience. The haft's surface has a texture imitating wood grain. For perfect control and balance, a 15 cm steel tube is embedded in the handle, giving the weapon a surprisingly agile and secure feel in hand.
Available Versions:
- Head Colour: steel / graphite / brass
Use in Combat: Crushing Power
The mace was the commoner's answer to expensive plate armour. One well-aimed blow could dent a helmet, cause serious injury, and concuss a foe even without penetrating the plate. This 70 cm long LARP version is an ideal one-handed weapon for close combat. It pairs perfectly with a shield, such as a pavise, and is excellent for fighting in formation or in duels. This is a weapon that does not require finesse – only strength and determination.
How to Care For Your Weapon
To ensure your mace survives many battles, give it the proper care.
- Its flanges are designed for crushing armour, not rocks or walls. Avoid hitting hard and sharp objects to prevent damaging the foam edges.
- When storing, do not leave the weapon compressed for long periods.
- Minor damage to the foam can be easily repaired with a flexible superglue (we recommend Loctite Super Glue Power Flex Gel).
- However, remember that a broken core is a wound that cannot be healed.
A Piece of History in Your Hands
During the Hussite Wars (1419–1434), the mace was not just an effective weapon, but also a symbol of authority. While common soldiers often used simpler weapons, the mace was the badge of a commander – a *hejtman*. Jan Žižka, as the supreme commander, is immortalized in many depictions with a mace in his hand. This weapon, cheap to produce yet incredibly effective against heavily armoured crusader knights, became one of the symbols of the Hussite military revolution, which proved that a determined and well-organized peasant army could defeat the most powerful forces in Europe.
Safety First
Even though this is a safe foam weapon, always use it responsibly. It is designed to deliver palpable but safe blows. Never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas. Despite the mace's historical role in crushing helmets, never attempt this in LARP! Use appropriate protective gear.
