Rondel Dagger: Foam LARP & Theatrical Weapon / PU Foam Dagger

Design and Construction Down to the Last Detail

This LARP dagger faithfully captures its historical counterpart. The first thing you'll notice is the elegantly twisted grip, which fits perfectly in hand and gives the weapon a unique character. The grip is set between two characteristic circular discs—the rondels—that form the guard and pommel. The pommel is further decorated with subtle notching around its edge. These elements not only protected the wielder's hand but also enabled a powerful grip for thrusting attacks. The realistic blade features a prominent central ridge and tapers smoothly to a safe point. You can customize the entire design: choose the colour of the twisted grip in black or brown and the finish of the metallic parts in steel, graphite, or brass.

Available Versions:

  • Blade Length: 25, 30, or 35 cm (total length is always +11 cm)
  • Grip Colour: Black / Brown
  • Hilt Colour: Steel / Graphite / Brass
  • Optional Accessories: Available without a sheath, with a leather sheath, or with a leather sheath featuring a decorative metal chape, as seen in the photo.

Use in Combat: Elegance and Lightness

Please note that this soft dagger is primarily designed for theatrical combat, light stabbing, and slashing. Its thinner, 6mm fibreglass core makes it ideal for simulating fast, precise attacks, not for heavy combat. It is not built to parry blows from heavier foam weapons like swords or axes. If you are looking for a dagger for full-contact LARP fencing, we recommend choosing one of our Fencing Daggers, which feature a stronger core.

How to Care for Your Weapon

To ensure your dagger serves you well and maintains its beauty, treat it with respect.

  • Your new weapon is made for combat with foes, not inanimate objects. Avoid hitting hard or sharp surfaces like rocks, trees, the edges of armour, or shield rims.
  • Give it space during storage. Do not leave it compressed for long periods, for example, under luggage in a car trunk. The hard rubber guard can bend in combat and return to form, but it can be permanently deformed by extreme, prolonged pressure.
  • If the foam suffers a battle scar, you can easily repair it with a high-quality flexible superglue. We personally recommend Loctite Super Glue Power Flex Gel.
  • The colour can be restored or changed with paints designed for plastics.
  • However, remember that a broken core is a fatal wound that cannot be healed.

A Piece of History in Your Hands

The rondel dagger (from the French rondelle, meaning "small circle") became an extremely popular weapon in the 14th and 15th centuries throughout Europe. It was the personal sidearm of knights and men-at-arms, designed for a single purpose: to pierce the gaps in plate armour where a sword could not reach. The rigid, two-disc construction allowed a warrior to put their full body weight behind a thrust, generating immense pressure at the point, which was crucial for piercing the maille underneath the plates. It was a vicious and deadly close-quarters weapon, the final argument in a knightly duel.

Safety First

Although this dagger is a soft, safe foam weapon, remember that it is not a toy. Always use it responsibly and with consideration for others. Never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas. For maximum safety, we recommend using appropriate protective gear.
