Tanto LARP Throwing Knife Red - Japanese Style Foam & Safe (25 cm)

Detailed Description and Appearance

This knife is a replica of the traditional Japanese Tanto. The characteristic blade, with its angled tip and relatively straight edge, features a realistic, weathered metallic look in dark tones with lighter accents. A small, brass-coloured guard (tsuba) separates the blade from the handle. The knife's overall length is 25 cm.

The handle (tsuka) has the typical appearance of a simulated reddish-brown cord wrap (tsuka-ito) with a visible diamond pattern, reminiscent of traditional wrapping techniques. This design not only looks great but also aids in a firm grip. The entire appearance faithfully reflects the aesthetic of Japanese weaponry.

Material and Safety

The knife is crafted from high-quality, durable, and very flexible closed-cell polyurethane foam. It is completely coreless, which is essential for safety when used as a throwing weapon in LARP. You can confidently use it in contact LARP combat (always adhering to specific event rules). The material guarantees good tear resistance, and its low weight (approximately 35 g) contributes to accuracy and throwing speed. This knife is LARP approved.

A Bit of LARP Lore

Characters inspired by East Asian cultures, such as samurai or ninja, are very popular in fantasy LARP. Using authentic-looking props like the Tanto helps players immerse themselves more fully in their roles and enhances the overall atmosphere of the game. Historically, the Tanto was not just a weapon but also a tool and a status symbol for the samurai.

How and When to Use This Knife

  • Character: Ideal for samurai, ninja, assassins, ronin, or any character inspired by Japanese or East Asian culture, or perhaps warriors from the fantasy "Eastern Isles".
  • Situation: Great as a backup weapon to a katana, a primary short weapon, a throwing knife for silent attacks, a ritual object, or as a versatile tool for your character.
  • Event: Perfect for fantasy LARPs with diverse cultural themes, games focusing on martial arts or intrigue, or any event where you want to give your character a specific style.

Care Instructions for Your LARP Replica

  • Storage: Store the knife flat in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid compressing or deforming it with other objects.
  • Cleaning: If dirty, wipe the knife with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning agents.
  • Maintenance: Regularly check the knife for tears or other damage. To extend its lifespan and maintain material flexibility, you can apply silicone oil suitable for LARP weapons.

Safe Usage Guidelines

  • Use the knife only for LARP and costume purposes in accordance with the specific event's rules.
  • Never aim or throw at the head, neck, or face.
  • Check the knife's condition before each use. Do not use it if damaged.
  • Respect the safety instructions provided by the LARP event organisers.
  • Do not modify or reinforce the knife in any way. Remember, this is a safe foam replica.

With the Tanto throwing knife, you get not only a safe and functional LARP weapon but also a stylish accessory that faithfully mimics the iconic Japanese dagger. It's an excellent choice for any player wanting to add a touch of exoticism and martial honour to their character.
