The Cursed Crew on Deck

This set brings you two distinct characters that together form a perfect scene from the deck of a ghost ship. These are not static figures, but characters captured in action amidst their hunt for plunder.

The first figure is the Captain or Boarding Master. You can recognize him by his typical tricorne hat adorned with feathers and the ominous skull and crossbones symbol (Jolly Roger). His long, once-luxurious coat bears the marks of time and battle. In his right hand, he holds a flaming torch symbolizing destruction, while his left hand grips a heavy boarding axe, a tool as useful for cutting rigging as it is for close-quarters combat. At his feet lies a pile of looted treasure.

The second figure is the Lookout or First Mate. Instead of a hat, he wears a red bandana, a typical accessory for sailors to keep hair out of the rigging. His stance is alert – shading his empty eye sockets with his right hand, scanning the horizon for the next victim. His left hand raises a curved cutlass to the sky, ready for an immediate attack. He stands on the remnants of a wooden dock or deck, surrounded by skulls and coins.

Symbolism and History

The motif of skeleton pirates stems from rich maritime mythology, particularly legends of ghost ships like the Flying Dutchman. These stories tell of crews condemned to sail the oceans eternally without ever making port. In pop culture, this motif is linked to the concept of greed – the gold for which these men killed eventually became the curse that binds them to this world even after death.

The weapons held by the statues correspond historically to the Golden Age of Piracy (approx. 1650–1730). The boarding axe and cutlass were the preferred weapons for fighting in the cramped spaces of a ship, where long rapiers were impractical.

• Handling: Although polyresin is sturdy, it can shatter if dropped on a hard surface. Place them on a stable base.
