Prague Groschen of Charles IV in Brass, Golden Replica Coin (Brass, 30,8 mm)

A Masterpiece of Gothic Art in a Golden Guise

The design of this coin, the master of which was issued for the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV, faithfully captures the aesthetics of the 14th century. It is struck using classic medieval technology from hand-engraved dies, which guarantees its high level of detail. Unlike more common replicas, this one is struck in solid brass, which gives it not only a beautiful golden shine but also a pleasant weight and a valuable feel in the hand.

  • Obverse (Front): The centre is dominated by an elaborate Gothic royal crown. The inscriptions bear the name and title of the sovereign: KAROLUS PRIMUS (Charles the First) and DEI GRATIA REX BOEMIE (By the Grace of God, King of Bohemia). Although he reigned as Charles IV, he is listed as "the First" on the coins because he was the first king of that name on the Bohemian throne.
  • Reverse (Back): Bears the traditional symbol of the Bohemian kingdom – the majestic double-tailed lion, and the inscription GROSSI PRAGENSES (Prague Groschen).

A Currency for the Upper Echelons

While silver groschen were the common currency, coins with a golden appearance have always symbolized higher status. This brass replica is therefore ideal for portraying kings, powerful nobles, church dignitaries, or wealthy merchants at LARP and historical events. Its premium look also makes it a great display piece and an original gift for any history lover.

The Coin That Built Prague

During the reign of Charles IV (1346–1378), Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, the Czech lands experienced a period of unprecedented prosperity, and Prague became the centre of Europe. It was precisely the Prague Groschen that were used to pay the builders of the Charles Bridge and St. Vitus Cathedral, the artists at Karlštejn Castle, and the professors at the newly founded university daily. This coin is thus a tangible symbol of the golden era of this history.

How to Care For the Brass Replica

This replica is made from pure brass, which gives it its beautiful golden appearance. Brass is a material that naturally reacts with its environment over time and develops a darker, antique patina. This look is often desirable for historical purposes and adds to the coin's authenticity. However, if you prefer a brilliant shine, you can easily polish the coin at any time with a soft cloth and a common commercial brass cleaner.
