A Masterpiece of Gothic Art in a Golden Guise
The design of this coin, the master of which was issued for the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV, faithfully captures the aesthetics of the 14th century. It is struck using classic medieval technology from hand-engraved dies, which guarantees its high level of detail. Unlike more common replicas, this one is struck in solid brass, which gives it not only a beautiful golden shine but also a pleasant weight and a valuable feel in the hand.
- Obverse (Front): The centre is dominated by an elaborate Gothic royal crown. The inscriptions bear the name and title of the sovereign: KAROLUS PRIMUS (Charles the First) and DEI GRATIA REX BOEMIE (By the Grace of God, King of Bohemia). Although he reigned as Charles IV, he is listed as "the First" on the coins because he was the first king of that name on the Bohemian throne.
- Reverse (Back): Bears the traditional symbol of the Bohemian kingdom – the majestic double-tailed lion, and the inscription GROSSI PRAGENSES (Prague Groschen).
