A Symbol of Power and Legend
This artistic replica is struck using classic medieval technology from hand-engraved dies, guaranteeing its detailed and historically faithful depiction. Every element on the coin tells its own story.
- Obverse (Front): Depicts the crowned Madonna seated on a throne with the infant Jesus. Below them is a raven with a ring in its beak – the heraldic symbol of the Hunyadi family, from which Matthias Corvinus (from the Latin corvus – raven) descended. Legend says that a raven once stole a ring given to Matthias's father, John Hunyadi, by the king. Hunyadi caught up with the raven, killed it, and recovered the ring, for which the king improved his coat of arms with this very motif.
- Reverse (Back): Bears the figure of Saint Ladislaus, a Hungarian king and patron saint, depicted in armour with a battle-axe and a royal orb.
For Kings, Magnates, and Mercenaries
Golden Hungarian ducats were among the most stable and sought-after currencies of their time. They were the currency of international trade, used to pay soldiers' wages and ransoms. This replica is therefore the perfect prop for characters from the 15th century, whether you are portraying a Hungarian magnate, a Bohemian knight fighting in the Bohemian-Hungarian Wars, or a fearsome mercenary from Matthias's famous Black Army.
The Coin of a Renaissance Monarch
Matthias Corvinus (1458–1490) was not only the King of Hungary and Croatia but also, after the wars with George of Poděbrady, the rival King of Bohemia, controlling Moravia, Silesia, and Lusatia. He was renowned as an educated Renaissance ruler, a patron of the arts, and the founder of the famous library (Bibliotheca Corviniana). At the same time, he was a feared warlord. His standing professional army, known as the Black Army (Fekete sereg), was one of the most modern and disciplined military forces in Europe at the time.

How to Care For Your Brass Coin
This replica is made of polished brass, which gives it the appearance of real gold. Over time, brass naturally reacts with its environment and may darken or develop a patina, which many find desirable for a historical look. If you prefer the original golden shine, you can easily polish the coin with a cloth using a commercially available brass cleaner.
