A Masterpiece of the Bohemian Renaissance
This coin is an artistic replica that accurately captures the design of one of Europe's most important historical currencies. It is minted from aluminum using traditional techniques and hand-engraved dies, giving it an authentic look and a detailed, high-relief finish. Despite the lightweight material, its silvery shine gives the coin a valuable and convincing appearance.
- Obverse (Front): Features the two-tailed Bohemian lion, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The inscription names the monarch who formally authorized the coin: LUDOVICVS PRIMVS DEI GRACIA REX BOEMIE (Louis I, by the Grace of God, King of Bohemia).
- Reverse (Back): Dominated by the figure of Saint Joachim (Sanctus Iochimus), the patron saint of miners, holding the family crest of the Counts of Schlick. The Schlick family organized the silver mining in Joachimsthal and the minting of the Thaler coins. The inscription reads: ARMA DOMINORVM SLICORVM STEFANI ET FRATRVM COMITVM DE BASAIA (Coat of arms of the Lords of Schlick, Stephen and his brothers, Counts of Bassano).

The Story of the Coin That Conquered the World
In the early 16th century, the Counts of Schlick discovered silver deposits in the Ore Mountains so rich that they founded a town on the site, calling it Joachimsthal (Jáchymov in Czech). They received the privilege from King Louis I (1516–1526) to mint their own large silver coin. These coins, called Joachimsthaler Guldengroschen, became immensely popular throughout Europe for their high quality and purity. Their name was soon shortened to "Thaler," which became synonymous with large silver coins. Centuries later, the name evolved through the Dutch "Daler" into the American "Dollar." Smaller denominations, such as this 1/4 Thaler, were an integral part of this famous monetary system.
