This gives the hide water-repellent properties and prevents it from drying out. If your sheath gets wet during an event, never dry it near a direct heat source such as an open fire or a radiator. Let it air dry naturally at room temperature; otherwise, the leather will harden and may crack. Safety Guidelines

When sliding your knife into the sheath, take care not to cut through the stitching or the leather walls. The knife should slide in smoothly but with enough resistance that it will not fall out on its own while running or in combat. If your knife has an extremely sharp point, never apply strong upward pressure on the bottom of the sheath, as the tip could pierce the leather and cause injury.
