After their stay in Lothlórien, the rest of the Fellowship of the Ring received special gifts from Galadriel and Celeborn. Aragorn was given this elaborately crafted dagger. On the blade the following Tengwar-runes are engraved in Sindarin – the language of the Grey Elves: Gûd daedheloth (= Foe of the Morgoth's Realm).
