When the first officer's and military knives with multiple blades began to emerge at the end of the 19th century, thin pocket knives suddenly became rather massive tools. Under no circumstances should you attempt to insert a fixed-blade knife or a folding knife where you have forgotten to close the blade or another sharp implement. The steel would easily pierce the soft nylon wall, irreversibly destroying the pouch and causing you a very serious cutting injury.
