Black Tactical Coiled Safety Lanyard for Sidearms and Gear
The History of Pistol Lanyards and the Evolution of Tactical Gear
The history of safety cords (widely known in military terminology as pistol lanyards) dates back to the cavalry regiments of the 18th and 19th centuries. In the chaos of battle back then, losing a firearm or saber from the saddle meant almost certain death. Therefore, soldiers tethered their weapons to their uniforms using long leather or braided cords. However, the modern concept of this accessory, as seen in this model, only emerged with the development of special forces in the 20th century. A classic straight cord presented a massive risk of snagging on branches or on equipment inside vehicles. That is why the coiled design, resembling a telephone cord, was developed. The lanyard is very short when at rest and sits close to the body, but when drawing a weapon or using a knife, it stretches precisely to the required length and then retracts back on its own.
Proper Use and Maintenance Tips for Your Gear
Using this safety lanyard is completely intuitive and lightning-fast. You simply clip one carabiner to a D-ring on your tactical vest, your belt, or a backpack loop, and connect the second carabiner to the lanyard hole on your folding knife, your flashlight, or the retention loop of your airsoft or LARP sidearm. Moreover, thanks to the smooth resistance of the coil, the lanyard slightly stabilizes the weapon during handling. The product is entirely maintenance-free, water-resistant, and will not rot. In case of heavy dirt from mud, simply rinse it under running lukewarm water and wipe it dry. We recommend occasionally lubricating the moving parts of the carabiners with a tiny drop of silicone oil to maintain trouble-free operation.
Crucial Safety Warning
Always keep in mind that this is a safety lanyard for small and lightweight gear, not a device for belaying persons! Under no circumstances are the carabiners or the coiled lanyard itself intended for climbing, rappelling, building load-bearing structures, or suspending heavy loads. Furthermore, be aware that when fully stretched, the lanyard has a strong tendency to snap back rapidly. If the carabiner were to slip from your hand while under tension, it could whip back violently and cause injury. Therefore, exercise extreme caution and protect your eyes when detaching a stretched lanyard.
