Batons as blunt impact weapons have accompanied humanity since prehistoric times. From simple wooden clubs and tonfas, development has shifted to modern expandable batons, which have become standard issue for police and security forces worldwide. The 32-inch (approximately 79 cm) model is among the longest on the market, loosely inspired by Asian pole weapons like the bō or hanbō. The deployment mechanism operates on the reliable principle of friction resistance (known as a friction lock) – with a sharp flick of the wrist forwards or towards the ground, the steel tubes wedge firmly and uncompromisingly into one another.

Handling and Safe Closing

When deploying the baton, always ensure you have sufficient space around you. To close it afterwards, you must grip the baton firmly by the handle and strike the hardened tip vertically and forcefully against a hard surface (e.g., concrete, paving stones) to break the friction lock of the inner tubes. Never try to close the baton by simply pushing it from both ends with your hands, as this carries a high risk of pinching your fingers and skin. From a safety perspective, we must strongly warn you: strikes with this massive steel baton can cause serious or even fatal injuries, especially if sensitive areas such as the head or neck are hit. Use the weapon exclusively within the strict limits of necessary self-defence or extreme emergency. To master the correct habits and distance estimation, we strongly recommend practicing your strikes on a soft heavy bag.

Care and Maintenance of the Weapon

To prevent the telescopic mechanism from sticking and to ensure it functions smoothly, always keep the steel segments dry and clean. If the baton gets wet in the rain, wipe it thoroughly dry once you return home. A tiny drop of silicone oil can exceptionally be used to lubricate the friction surfaces, but beware – if over-lubricated, the tubes will lose the necessary friction resistance, and the baton will collapse upon impact. The rubber grip can easily be cleaned with lukewarm water and a soft brush if it becomes dirty.
